Who is it for?

The course is primarily aimed at personal trainers and other fitness professionals that coach clients or aspire to coach clients with the goal of muscle growth, fat loss or strength development. Health and psychology will also be discussed in detail. You don’t have to be a personal trainer to join the course: many non-professionals have already followed the course simply for the sake of self-improvement and their personal education.



The course is fully online, with the exception of a physical meet-up that will be recorded for those that can’t attend. The course covers the science and practice of strength training, muscle hypertrophy, strength development and fat loss. Health and psychology will also be discussed in detail.

  • Become an official Certified Bayesian Personal Trainer if you pass the exam. The Latin honors system is applied to the exam and your certificate.

The price is $199 per month.

Tip: You can declare the course as a business expense and save yourself a lot of tax money.

Group discount: When 3 PTs of the same gym register, each will receive 2 months of the course for free. Larger group discounts are negotiable. Please email for group registrations.

Repeat course discount: If you followed one of the previous Bayesian PT Courses, you will receive a large discount so that you only pay for new contents. This will allow you to stay up-to-date with life long continued education. You will not be extorted by having to renew your certificate every X years like many other courses do.

Refund policy: You can opt out at any time yourself by leaving the course group and canceling your payment subscription. You then only have to pay for months you’ve received the materials of (rounded up with a minimum of 1 month payment in total) and you get a refund for any future months you had already paid in advance. There is no refund for months you have received any contents of.

Q: Do I have to be present at specific times?

A: No, not necessarily. Attendees from time zones all over the world have followed the course. Any live materials will be recorded and uploaded.


Q: How does this course compare to personal training certifications like those by the NSCA, NASM and ISSA?

A: For one, the Bayesian PT Course course is specialized in fat loss and muscle growth with a secondary goal of strength development. As such, the Bayesian PT Course course goes into far greater detail on these topics than the above courses.

It is also more geared towards the practice of personal training and online coaching. Part of the reason for designing this course was the widespread disappointment with the above courses in preparing people for professional coaching. The average personal trainer isn’t exactly known for its evidence-based practice. This course is designed to truly give you all the tools you need to understand how to help yourself or your clients lose fat and gain muscle.

Q: I’m going on vacation during the course period. Can I still follow the course?

A: Absolutely. You can follow the course at your own pace, though most people have found that they benefit from keeping up with the group. In principle, it’s exactly like following a part-time online college degree.


Q: How intensive is the course?

A: The course is designed to be part-time, so you can follow it alongside your work or studies, but it will require a serious time commitment, such as in the evenings or in the weekends.

At a minimum you want to have one free evening per week and several days before the exam to follow the course. (Unless you’re not interested in the certification. Then you can of course work through everything at your own pace.)

If you don’t get around to studying all the materials before the exam, you can postpone the exam to the next course round.


Q: How is the exam conducted?

A: The exam takes place online and is designed to mimick the practice of online coaching. You will have access to the course materials and the internet during the course, just like in practice. More information will be provided during the course.


Q: Do I have to follow the exam?

A: No, you don’t. Many strength trainees have followed the course purely out of personal interest. Note that you won’t be certified if you don’t pass the exam.


Q: If I fail the exam, can I take a resit?

A: No, just like in life, there are no resits. You can only take the exam once during a course you attend. You can, however, postpone the exam to a future course round.


Q: How high is the bar set for the exam?

A: If you follow all the materials, you should pass the exam. The current pass rate for students that took the exam is 97% with 10% graduating cum laude.

    Hi Menno, what is the expected number of study hours per week? And can people sign up any time?

    • It’s hard to give a number of hours, as people vary so much in how fast they read and learn. The course is designed to be part-time. If you don’t have at least one full free evening a week, I wouldn’t recommend subscribing (unless you’re not interested in the certificate. Then you can work through all the materials at your own pace, since there’s no deadline).

      You can sign up at any time, but there are limited placings (classroom size) and they’re allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis.

      This course is fully in English, though you can ask questions in Dutch to me personally (or the other Dutch course members). If you have trouble understanding my English articles, I would not recommend following the course.

    • You could still enroll in the current course if you’re willing to catch up on the materials yourself or take the exam next round. Several others have done the same. The next course will start at the end of this year or Q1 2016.

    I am a Chinese native, actually the PT education here is awful, copy the ideas from different old research or popular books without evidence showed.

    1.Are the courses given out by LIVE or Videos? Due to the time differences (China is 13 hours earlier than USA), hope it is available to my normal schedule.

    • All course videos will be uploaded, so you can watch them whenever you want. You can enable closed captioning, but it’s automatic, so it kind of sucks. If you can’t understand my interviews, I wouldn’t recommend the course.

    • You don’t need to have any other certificates to join the course.

      Any certificate’s value is equal to the reputation of its provider. You can’t walk up to a gym and demand a job because you have certificate X. It’s like a reference on your resume.

    • No, I don’t engage in that sort of practice to keep squeezing money out of people. The certificate lists when you got it, so people can decide for themselves if it’s not current enough anymore, but it remains valid for life. If you do want to take another PT Course again in the future, as many people do, you get 50% off for that.

    • Depends on how you define governing body and recognition. You can’t walk into a gym with any certificate and demand a job as a PT. A certificate is like a letter of recommendation on your resume and its worth is largely determined by the reputation of the certifying institution (Bayesian Bodybuilding).

    I aspire to become a PT but haven’t embarked on my formal education yet. I have decent amateur knowledge but only from podcasts and ‘laymen friendly’ books. I haven’t spent any time on serious text books or efforts to to break down publish scientific studies on my own.

    I’m a pretty fast learner and have. Around 10-15 hours a week to put into the course. Do you think it would be suitable for me at this stage or do you think I should hit the text books first (if so are there any you would recommend for me to attain the pre-requisite knowledge I need?).

    • Hi Jamie, the course includes all information, including the basics, you need to become an evidence-based PT (an update from the first versions, which only included the advanced information), so there’s no need for any prior education. With 10-15 hours per week you should be able to get by for sure, especially as a fast learner.

    Do you have any pre-requisite requirements(or recommendation) for the course? My goal is to become a personal trainer in a year or so. I have good amateur knowledge of ‘health and fitness’ which I’ve gleaned from articles, podcasts and books by the likes of Dave Asprey, Mark Sisson, Robb Wolf etc. However, I have never dived in deep, read textbooks or properly dedicated myself to dissect and draw my own conclusions from scientific studies. These are things I intend to do, from now until I die.

    Given my current state of knowledge, which could be classed as second hand (he/she said), is this course going to be an ok fit for me right now? I do have the motivation to learn and around 10 hours a week to study.

    If not, can you recommend what knowledge I should acquire before start the course?

    I had a few questions about the PT Course, if possible:

    1) If this course focused on a sustainable way to maximize bodybuilding results and a sustainable nutritional regimen, or is it focused on getting the results ASAP while compromising some things? I ask that because many times, in their marketing, some people who sell nutrition products say things like: “this is not a diet, this is a lifestyle you can sustain forever without compromising your health” so in my mind, getting the results efficiently became associated with “unhealthy compromises”. So I ask whether that is even true, and whether this one is focused on effectiveness or on health?

    2) What’s your view on Martin MacDonald’s Mac-Nutrition University? I know they’re focused on nutrition and not on training, but do you think his evidence-based nutritional content would be different than your evidence-based nutritional content?

    3) How is your PT Course different / better than the Precision Nutrition course? I know John Berardi is not a fan of having low carb diet, while you don’t seem to be at all a fan of carbs.

    Thanks for answering this, especially I’m sure many people would have heard of those two evidence-based courses and will be wondering how your content is different. (Again, I see one big difference which is that you cover training much more than those two courses, and you are much more focused on muscle hypertrophy + fat loss than those two courses, why they are focused mostly on fat loss).

    • 1) Both: how to maximize muscle growth and fat loss and how to compromise on this, e.g. when time is limited, compliance is a problem or someone is injury prone.
      2) Never heard of this. Martin’s a good guy though.
      3) Both high and low carb diet have their applications. To say I’m ‘not a fan of carbs’ is a hugely reductionist view of the Bayesian method. You can read the reviews of several people who have followed PN courses in the review sections.

    I’d like to attend the next PT course but am asking myself if I have enough time for it besides my current studies and work.
    How much time would you say does it take on a weekly base if someone already has a solid Knowledge base? (strength Coach education by intelligent strength, read a lot of books (like the muscle and strength Training and Nutrition pyramids etc)and articles of your and Greg Nuckols’ Website)
    When does the next course start and how soon would I have t apply for it in order to get a place in it for sure?

    I have few questions about the course.

    I want to be a Personal Trainer or doing work in the fitness industries and really want to learn more knowledge about fitness (eg: nutrition, techniques,…). But at this moment, I dont have much knowledge, all things I known just come from some posts of the other people who workout for many years in the social media or I watched on Youtube.

    So I am really confused before sign up this course. Do I need to research more before taking in this course. My English is also just average to understand but if taking this course I will need to learning more new word. But I do have enough motivation and passion to take a lot of time to studying and learning.

    Can you answer or giving some advance for me please.

    • Hi Quan, there’s no minimum education needed to join the course (there used to be, but now all the core knowledge has been added and made easier to digest). Everything you need to know is in the course. If your English is not good enough to understand the articles and videos/podcasts on though, then you’ll probably have a hard time understanding the course and I wouldn’t recommend it.

    • I’m not a fan of critiquing the competition, but I’d be utterly depressed if anyone said the Bayesian PT Course wasn’t on a completely different level than the NASM. See the reviews for people who have followed both courses.

    I wondered if you had any plans to release a book, or even perhaps a less involved course. I love your articles, and your approach, and while i’d really like to learn more unfortunately as a relatively poor hobbyist i can’t justify the cost of your full course.

    Fairly confident the answer will be no but wanted to ask.

    Please note, i’m absolutely sure your course is worth the cost, please don’t interpret my question as a complaint of any kind.

    First of all thanks for sharing your knowledge and personal view with the rest of the world. I am a Spanish guy living in NL though my Dutch is not as good as my English I can have a conversation. However I guess I feel uncertain about PT in Dutch (or in any language at this moment :)). I have no experience nor education in physical activities, coaching, physiology, but I am an engineer with passion for sports in general and always looking forward to be healthier. I also have diabetes type 1 and it became my strength to go forward. I’d like to help people with similar condition to get in control of their health, but I have no idea where to start (I hope that might be more clear after your PT course)
    I would appreciate your opinion about the situation I explained above and also about the following:
    Do I need deep knowledge (e.g. diploma) in lifting techniques/physiology/psychology to become a PT?
    Do you know what kind of “business” I should have to claim this course as training within the Netherlands?
    Although I heard your personal story couple of times, Could you share your opinion about how difficult could it be for someone to make a career change? (From let say IT industry to Coaching)

    • Hey Luis, you don’t need to be a fitness professional, have a business or have any formal knowledge to take the PT Course. The course provides all the information you need, from the fundamentals to the advanced details. Judging by your proficiency of the English language, you’ll probably do better in the English than the Dutch course. Note that while the course will make you a good PT and give you all the tools to succeed with your own physique, you still have to put up your own business, build a reputation, etc. We’re still working on securing job positions for our students.

    I really like the research studies that you post and your overall approach towards achieving your fitness. I am a sports nutritonist and wish to upgrade my knowledge. I am only interested in learning the nutrition aspect of your course. Is it an option available that I pay only for the part that I wish to learn. For eg: 1st two months (week 1-8th) and from week 22 to 28th. Since they are more related to the nutrition aspect.

    • You probably want to read up on your tax laws if you don’t know these things. In most countries, you can deduct the course money either from your company’s or your personal expenses, thereby reducing your taxable income and thereby saving you money.
